2024 Week 1: Vikings 28, Giants 6

Not much to look into for this game, the Giants defense had an early turnover where the offense couldn’t move the ball resulting in a field goal. I don’t have any radical thoughts here, Daniel Jones played terribly and the line was not good. Sam Darnold looked fine and was well protected behind his line.

This Giants regime is on the hot seat, Daniel Jones has maybe 2-3 more games as a starter if things continue at this rate. Drew Lock would be the runner up and the real diamond-in-the-rough play would be Tommy DeVito.

=====================================

QB Report:

- Daniel Jones (22/42 for 186 yards, 0 TD/ 2INT, 6 rushes for 15-0) as noted had an awful game. No other way to put it. Jones has thrown more pick-sixes than touchdowns since signing his 160 million dollar contract.

- Sam Darnold (19/24 for 208 yards, 2 TD/ 1 INT) who has been held in the same tier as Daniel Jones his entire career played a very solid game, thanks to the offensive line. Darnold was able to find some gaps in coverage and took advantage, but this is by no means a career revival but their offense isn’t completely dead because of the strength of their line.

RB Report:

- Aaron Jones (14-94-1, 2 catches for 15-0/2) looked like his old self, quick and aggressive.

- Ty Chandler (8-17-0, 3 catches for 25-0/3) looked off and had all throughout preseason. This is Jones’ backfield.

- Devin Singletary (10-37-0, 4 catches for 15-0/5) dominated the snaps but he and Daboll have a Buffalo connection. If the Giants lose to Washington this week we may see Tyrone Tracy (2-2-0, 1 catch for 5 yards) get some more work to develop him for the future.

WR Report:

- Justin Jefferson (4-59-1/6) only had 6 targets in this game, and his statline was saved by a TD. If the Vikings make a habit of getting ahead early on teams then they will continue to sit on their lead the way they did this game then JJ will have a limited output all year.

- Jordan Addison (4-35-0/4) probably won’t play next week against SF, Jalen Nailor (1-21-1/1) will pick up the majority of that work but they are playing that vaunted Niners defense… it doesn’t mean much.

- Malik Nabers (5-66-0/7) looks like a more athletic version of Jefferson, both of these are star WRs being held back by bad QB play. The best thing that can happen for Nabers is Tommy DeVito taking the reins.

- Wan’Dale Robinson (6-44-0/12, 1 rush for 14 yards) had 12 targets so everyone loves him this week, he’s the easy throw for Jones since he usually runs routes closer to the line of scrimmage. Next week he’ll likely have 3-4 targets and everyone will forget he exists.

D/ST Report:

- The Giants defense played really well with a few bad plays that Minnesota took advantage of. There was really nothing they could have done with the offense playing so terribly. This game got out of hand and that was that.

- It’s tough to judge the Vikings defense after this game. Daniel Jones played so bad any defense would have looked elite.
